FAQ

What is the difference between an EMDR Trained therapist and an EMDR Certified therapist?

The difference boils down to the amount of experience providing EMDR treatment, consultation hours, additional advanced training and recommendations from consultants who can back your expertise.  I am proud to be an EMDR Certified therapist, which took an additional two years after completing all the requirements for being an EMDR Trained therapist.  Experience matters!

How do I pay for therapy? What are the fees?

I accept private pay in the amount of $200 for a 55 minute individual session and $250 for a 55 minute couples' session.  Reimbursement is expected at the close of each session via debit or credit card using Stripe, a confidential online payment platform.

While I do not accept insurance directly, it's important to note that PPO health plans will often offer a partial reimbursement for therapy. I encourage you to contact your health insurance provider to find out if this is an option for you. If so, I will happily provide you with a monthly Superbill that you can submit to your health plan for potential reimbursement.  Because insurance reimbursements require a diagnosis and treatment code, these items will be listed in your Superbill.

How long will therapy take? Do I have to come every week for therapy?

The answer depends on your personal situation and needs. Some people are able to reduce their symptoms in a few sessions and feel content with this progress.  While others are committed to understanding and resolving the root causes of their challenges and would choose to attend therapy for a longer period of time. Initially, I typically recommend weekly appointments, particularly if you are feeling committed and ready for growth, action and change.  We can then move to bi-weekly or monthly appointments once you are feeling better and have more skills and confidence in managing your symptoms and daily struggles.

Do you prescribe medication?

No. As a therapist I am not licensed to prescribe medications. Medication is generally prescribed only by medical personnel, such as primary care physicians or psychiatrists.  After 25 years in the field, though, I am familiar with the benefits of the right medication at the right dose for some people.  I will have honest conversations with you if I think you may be someone who could benefit from a consult with your doctor.   I am also a big believer in the holistic approach so I can also support you in connecting with a doctor who may focus more on supplements, diet and overall body function.  I will always respect your decision on what is right for you.

What happens if I am unable to attend my appointment?

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please give at least 24 hours advanced notice via text message.  If less notice is given, you will be billed your full session rate.
